The selection of pictures portraying the soloist of the Romathan Theater, Roman Godla. He plays dramatic roles, both leading and supporting roles in most stage performances for children as well as for adults. Besides acting he works also for dancing section of the theater as its choregrapher. Roman Godla came to Romathan Theater in 1994 immediately after his obligatory military service finished. Untill 2002 worked only as an actor and singer.

Marián Balog

A selection of photographs from performances of the Romathan Theater soloist Marián Balog, which was made by the Documentation and Information Center of Roma Culture in the years 2013 to 2018.
He came to the theater in 1992. Since 2009, besides acting, he works as dramaturge and director in the theater. His first experience with theater was received before 1992, during his time in the Theater of Jonas Zaborsky in Presov. Besides theater, he played in films in the past. In 2000 he was casted for one of the main roles in the film (co production of Czech Republic, Slovakia and France) named Report on Pilgrimage of Students Peter and Jacob. In 1995 he was awarded the prize given by The Association of the Theater Artists in Slovakia and the Slovak Literature Fund.
Other awards:
2006 – Literature Fund – awarde for exceptional artistic and directing input in creation of the drama The Cunning Family
2007 – The Award of Kosice City for large participation in founding the Theater Romathan, long lasting artistic work in the theater and talented directing which produced the core repertoir of the theater.
2016 – Literature Fund – the annual award for directing the original Romani music fairy-tale Magical Bell.

Milan Godla

A selection of photographs from performances featuring Milan Godla, actor, singer, translator, screenwriter and dramatist. He began his career in an amateur ensemble of singers and actors in Prešov under the leadership of Daniela Hivešová Šilanová. From 1992 he worked in the Romathan Theater. He finished his work in the theater in 2017. He was an integral part of the Theater. In 2004 he received the Mayor of Košice Award for Contribution to Culture.

Roman Goroľ

The portrait photo of the Romani writer Roman Goroľ. The photo was taken on November 16, 2016 after the publication of his first collection of poems, Cold Touch of the Lost Morning, published by the State Scientific Library in Prešov.
Roman Goroľ was born in Vranov nad Topľou. He is married and has three sons. He studied at the Pedagogical Facultz of the University of Prešov in Prešov, where he completed a bachelor's degree. Until 2019, he worked as a teacher's assistant at the primary school in the village of Čaklov, where he also lives. From 2019, he began working as the editor of the Romani nationality radio broadcast of Slovak Radio in Košice. He is a lover of literature, poetry and prose. As a child, he began writing short poems about life, emotions, love.

Vojtech Váradi

A collection of photographs documenting a Romani woodcarver Vojtech Varadi. He lives and works in the village Bretka (district of Rožňava). He worked in the village as a cattle shepherd and got to carving craft during his work, when he began to carve out wood in a meadow. The photos document his dwelling where he creates, but also the space in front of the house where he shows his carvings. It is mainly birds, but also utility items such as spoons, ladles, boars. He has three sons, only one of them is carving - Boris Varadi. Woodcarving is a source of livelihood for them.

Photographs documenting the memorial narration of Helena Jonasova, chairwoman of the civic association Cultural Association of the Roma of Slovakia in Banska Bystrica. Photographs were taken in 2016. Helena Jonasova worked at the District Office in Banska Bystrica. She worked at almost all departments there which were dealing with social affairs. At the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra she received the title PhDr. Already during her studies at the Department of Romani Culture she received an exception and could also give lectures to students, as she had long-term experience in working in the social field. On the 25th anniversary of the department she also received an award for its development. In 2008 she was awarded the Humanity Award for her work in the social field. She received the award from the hands of Anina Botosova, the then Plenipotentiary of the Government of the Slovak Republic for Romani Communities.

Karel Adam

Karel Adam, DiS.art, (1953-) is a professional musician – first violinist, conductor and in the time of speaking the director (1998-2016) of the professional Romani Theater Romathan. After graduation from The State Conservatory in Košice he worked for art agencies Slovkoncert and Pragokoncert. In 1992 he joined the nascent Theater Romathan as a Chief Conductor of the Theater Orchestra.

The Folk Band of Julius Bandy

A set of photos of the family folk band from Presov, in which music is passed from generation to generation. The band members are the father, Julius Bandy and his three sons – Kristian, Julius and Samuel. They play cimbalom, double bass, violin and viola. They play both classical and dance music genres. Their repertoire include both Slovak and Romani folk music as well as music of other national minorities – Jewish, Ruthenian, Hungarian, Russian. They also play music from film.
The father, Julius Bandy, comes from musician family. He was born in Velky Saris. He graduated from the Elementary School for Music of Mikulas Moyzes as a cimbalom player. He also plays saxophone, double bass and harmonica. In the years 1982-1983 he played in the children folk ensemble Dubravienka in Presov. In the years 1985-1986 he was a part of the children folk ensemble Sarisancek in Presov. As 15 years old he started playing in the Theater of Alexander Duchnovic in Presov. His military service brought him to the Army Esemble of Art Janosik in Zvolen (1993-1994). He played cimbalom in several other bands and esembles – the Folk Band Presovcan, the Folk Ensemble Sabinovcan, the Folk Band Czardasz from Presov, the Folk Band of Jan Budyi from Humenne.
Kristian Bandy studied studied violin at the Elementary School of Art of Mikulas Moyzes in Presov. He continued his studies at Private Conservatory of Dezider Kardos in Presov (1-3 years), later moved to the Private Conservatory of Music and Drama in Kosice (4-6 years). He will study violin further on the Catholic University in Ruzomberok, the local branch in Spisske Podhradie. He is a guest player in the orchestra of the Romathan Theater, he leads the music part of the ensemble Fialecka at the Elementary School Srobarova in Presov. In the family band he plays viola.
Julius Bandy studied cimbalom at the Elementary School of Art of Mikulas Moyzes in Presov. He continued his studies at the Private Conservatory of Music and Drama in Kosice (1-4 years), which he graduated from at the end of the school year 2018-2019. In the family band he plays the double bass.
Samuel Bandy is the lead violinist of the family band. He studies violin at the Elementary School of Art of Mikulas Moyzes in Presov. For his excellen musical performance as a violin player he received several awards from competitions in Slovakia.
The family band was founded in 2013.
The sons Kristian and Julius graduated from the Private School of Music and Drama Arts in Kosice. The youngest one, Samuel, attends one of the elementary schools in Presov.

Viliam Šarközy st.

Viliam Šarközy (1939) is currently the oldest artistic smith in Dunajska Luzna. His smith products were many years sold by ULUV – the network of shops offering the folk art products. He is the author of many large sculptures; all of them made with great deal of artistic vision and smithery skill.
Formerly, Dunajska Luzna was called the Iron Village. Smithery as a craft has more than 300 years long tradition there; until today being the place with the highest number of forges in Slovakia.
