The Soul’s Journey

What’s the soul’s journey? How does it find the ways to express its feeling, its sorrows and joys and wit? Everyone carry one strong instrument which is the human voice. The soul expresses itself through it and the song is born. Some of the Romani songs, some old and several new ones, which were documented during the years 2013 and 2014 are presented in the songbook together with the lyrics and notation. You can play them, you can learn them, sing them and keep them for new generations.

Miroslav Rác - "Na dara"

The song belongs to the sub genre of romano hip-hop. Music is composed by Miroslav Rác. Lyrics written by Jarmila Vaňová and Miroslav Rác. The song was made in the year 2010 as a part of the activities supporting free declaration of the Romani nationality of the citizens in the cenzus in the Slovak Republic. The video, sound and lyrics are based on the live concert. Live versions might differ in lyrics, sound and the way of performance based on the author's licence. Esma Redžepova

Jozef Fečo is an amateur graphic artist who graduated at the Secondary Art School in Prešov. He studied wood design and carving. In 2011, he actively started to create his own works with his first work being the painting of Jesus on canvas. A series of ten fine art portraits of world famous personalities was created within the priority project "Live Books (word – video – audio)" supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic in April and May 2015. The artist Jozef Fečo prepared 9 portraits in his home environment in the village of Kračúnovce (May 2015). The tenth portrait was created in the premises of the Documentation and Information Centre of the Roma Culture. The person depicted in the portrait is Esma Redžepova. She belongs among the famous Romani singers, she was born on 8 August 1943 in Skopje, Macedonia. Her songs are very well-known and popular in many countries, sung by all generations. At the age of 9, she wrote her first song "Chajorije Shukarije", which became a hit in the whole Europe. She released more than 20 albums and performed almost 30 000 concerts. In 1976, she was declared for a Queen of World Gipsy music. Painting dimensions: 120 cm (w) x 100 cm (h). Painted on plasterboard in a pop-art style.

Her art-craft creations are based on the traditional Romani patterns, they are enriched by motifs from India, with final touch of her own fantasy. In addition to the arts, Rosa Taikon participated on political and social activities related to Roma. In 2013, she was awarded with the Olof Palme Prize, for her lifelong fight for human rights. Painting dimensions: 120 cm (w) x 100 cm (h). Painted on plasterboard in a pop-art style.

She was born on 22nd March 1921 in Velky Saris. She belongs to the eminent Romani writers. Her works are addressed to the children and also adults. She graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University in Prague (1970). She dealt also with the prose and drama. She was lifelong activist and Romani revivalist. She died on 1st January 2003 in Kosice. Painting dimensions: 120 cm (w) x 100 cm (h). Painted on plasterboard in a pop-art style.

The guitar duo plays self composed emotional songs of different genres, with the dominance of spanish rhythms of flamenco. Duo is composed of two virtuoso Roma musicians, František Godla and Dušan Onody from Sabinov. The composition was written during the studies of the both musicians on conservatory of music. It was inspired by dreaming of young people about the future.

Duo is composed of two virtuoso Roma musicians, František Godla and Dušan Onody from Sabinov. This self composed song of pair of musicians translated as a party, is a celebration of life. It begins with a slow, peacefull part, gradually evoking the fast working pace of an ordinary day. The end is a rhytmical, dynamic escalated evening, followed by a peaceful end of the day at the end of the party.
