Gustáv Karika

LL.D. Gustáv Karika was born in a large Romani family in Myjava. He was trained to be a machine fitter. In 1950 he became a student on a Collage of political and economic sciences in Prague, supervised by then General Secretaty of the CPC Central Committee Rudolf Slánsky (born 31st June 1901 - executed 3rd December 1952). After his execution, Karika continued his studies on Charles University in Prague, where he graduated from the administrative law. He worked as an officer in charge of a minorities on a Regional National Committee in Košice (since 1954), later he worked as a judge in Poprad and Stará Ľubovňa. In April 1969, together with MD Ján Cibuľa, Anton Facuna and Dr. Alojz Pompa, he was a founder of the Union of Gypsies-Romanies in Slovakia. After the end of the Union (3rd January 1973) he worked as a corporate lawyer in the mechanical enterprises in Nová Dubnica. He was also a lawyer in several other companies and non-governmental Romani organization.

Miroslav Rác, the pianist, the teacher on the art schools, composer, Romani hip-hopper, who composed the songs Poem A minor, Ballade in C-sharp minor and Porraimos. These three compositions were created as a tribute to the victims of Roma holocaust. Miroslav Rác, the Romani rapper who uses the stage name BG, tries to point on Romani victims of the II. World War, on people who had experienced suffering of the labour and concentration camps. The compositions were part of the musical program recorded during the World Day of Roma Holocaust - Porraimos. Presented instrumental song is called Poem A minor.

Gypsy Devils - "Czardas" (Vittorio Monti)

The music group Gypsy Devils performed the classical song of an Italian somposer, a violinist and a conductor Vittorio Monti - "Csárdás" on the concert taking place in Prešov, in a former cinema Scala. The Gypsy Devils belong to the Romani bands playing on traditional string instruments, on cimbalom, and who attract all the age cathegories of the audience and also professionals by their daring musical creations and genres (jazz, ethno, flamenco)

The Author Reading - Dušan Onody, Marco Pillo

The Author Reading of Dušan Onody was recorded on 31st March 2014 on the Small Stage of Jonáš Záborský Theatre in Prešov. The presentation of a poetry collection, called Venované Tebe, len Tebe (Dedicated To You, Only To You) was accompanied by guitar music and singing of a musician Marco Pillo. He plays music mostly in the genre of flamenco. During the program he also played several traditional Romani songs in own flamenco style. At the end of this digital object we can see a musical improvisation of Marco Pillo together with a Duo Farsa band, where Dušan Onody is a member.

M.A. Stanislav Cina graduated from the Faculty of Education on Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, his study programme was Education in primary school. He still is involved in pedagogy, as a college teacher, where he focuses mainly on Romani language. In 2008 he was among the signatories of the Romani language Standardization in Slovakia. He is an author of several publications for the teachers of socially disadvantaged children, textbooks for primary and secondary schools, many scientific articles and contributions in Slovak and foreign monographs and periodicals, conference proceedings, he is an co-author of Slovak-Romani and Romani-Slovak dictionary. At present he works at the Office of the Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Government for Roma Communities in Prešov.

Ondrej Ruszó - the Process of Painting

Ondrej Ruszó je amatérsky výtvarník, ktorý žije a tvorí v obci Plešivec. Narodil sa v Revúcej. Spolu s výtvarníkom Tiborom Oláhom prevádzkujú vlastný ateliér. S výtvarným umením začal už v útlom veku, počas základnej školy. Mal obdobia, kedy sa výtvarnému umeniu nevenoval. Hovorí, že keď človek má talent, tak ho bude mať vždy, aj keď sa maľovaniu nevenuje niekoľko rokov. Vo výtvarnom umení sa zdokonaľoval počas práce na stavbách v Bratislave. Po práci navštevoval kurz výtvarného umenia. Prvé práce začal publikovať v novinách Romano nevo ľil ešte začiatkom deväťdesiatych rokov. Ilustroval básne. Väčšinou sa venuje zobrazovaniu náboženských tém, kreslí portréty, zaujíma ho tiež architektúra budov. Vo tomto digitálnom objekte je zachytená kresba uhlíkom - ilustrácia do novín Romano nevo ľil.

Tibor Oláh is an amateur artist, living and working in Plešivec village. He was born in Detva, as one of 8 siblings. He was brought to fine arts by his brother Dušan Oláh. His favourite theme is nature - landscapes and village settlements. His work is characterized by bold colours. He paints on canvas and also on hardboard. He says he´s painting what he remembers from his childhood. He often records the inspiring nature on video.
