Ondrej Gadžor (9.7.1956 - 19.10.2013) - the native of Krásna nad Hornádom village, began with woodcarving at the age of 24. He worked with various types of material - stone, even with horn or shells, but especially with wood. He developed a unique sculptural handwriting, influenced by the school of the academic sculptor Vojtech Löfller, in whose atelier he worked for eleven years. Among the main themes stands a woman. He had several solo exhibitions, he regularly attended sculpture open air events. He performed at several solo exhibitions home and abroad. His works are exhibited i. a. also in Los Angeles, or the Vatican and many are part of the collections of museums in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic (East Slovak Museum in Košice, SNM-Museum of Romani Culture in Slovakia in Martin, Vojtech Löffler Museum in Košice, Museum of Romani Culture in Brno).

Lomnické čháve is a Romani rom-pop band lead by Milan Polhoš, the manager is Tomáš Slebodník. Their repertoir consists mostly of Romani, Slovak and other nation’s folk songs, which they interprete in pop-music arrangements, also using electronic musical instruments. The video is a recording of their performance of the rom-pop song Savana.

The Roma anthem was officially recognized in 1971 at the First World Roma Congress in London. The text was written by the Yugoslav composer Žarko Jovanovič to the tune of a traditional Romani song. Sister Maristella, by civic name Mária Kačová, is a nun of the Congregatio Jesu, the catholic female congregation known by popular name as „The English Virgins“. Sister Maristella lives in Prešov, helping the abused women, mothers with children and homeless people. She organizes charity where people donate food and clothing. For decades she has been an organist in the concathedral of St. Nicholas in Prešov. In 2009 she received the City of Prešov Award. She is the niece of the first Romani writer in Slovakia, Elena Lacková.

Cyril Demeter - Talking

Cyril Demeter is from the village of Brekov. He was 57 in the time of the interview. He comes from the working-class family. His father worked in Brekov in lime factory. In the same time he used to earn money as a musician, he played violin. He speaks about the local Romani community, the co-existence with the majority, about the Romani language and significant cultural and social changes.
The regional history of the Roma living in the village of Brekov is the subject of audio recordings that DICRK obtained free of charge from researcher Elena Cinová. Her research project called Brekov Roma in the Flow of Time was supported in 2020 by the Fund for the Support of the Culture of National Minorities. Guided interviews are in Slovak and bring closer the life and culture of the Roma and their perception of social change in the region.
