Gypsy Jazz Festival

The 4th year of the Gypsy Jazz Festival, which main organizer is a well-known musician - saxofon player, composer, band leader and promoter Miloslav Suchomel was held on February 2, 2015 in Bratislava at the theater Nová Scéna. Suchomel left behind the original festival form of individual concerts and the visitors were offered a comprehensive performance of his 30 members orchestra with jazz and string sections (the latter lead by the concert master of the Slovak National Theater, Arpád Patkoló), which gave place to several guest stars: the American singer Gail Anderson and the Romani singer Dotschy Reinhardt as the singing stars, followed by another American, a saxofon player Bill Evans. The styled Romani dance was performed by the dancers' group of Simona Horváthová. Music of the festival oscilated between the genres, mainly those of jazz, latino, oriental music and creations growing from the traditional Romani jazz. The festival was accompanied by the exhibition of fine art produced by academic painters Vladislav Zabel, Pavel Pokorný and Jozef Srna jr. The paintings were offered to the visitors for possible purchase.

Kmeťoband - Igor Kmeťo, senior and Igor Kmeťo, junior. Since 1999, the group of father and son has been called Kmeťoband. In its current composition, the group has been playing together since 2000. The principal founders of the group are IGOR KMEŤO, sr. and IGOR KMEŤO, jr. IGOR KMEŤO senior is also a manager of the group. Štefan Banyák (1938 - ) is a Roma violinist. He founded the Orchestra of Roma Musicians in Dunajská Streda, currently Bihári Orchestra, and he is the main organizer of Bihári festival held in Dunajská Streda every year. The musician is a chairman of the Civil Association (CA) of Roma Musicians in Dunajská Streda. At present, he works mainly with young Roma musicians and at the same time he actively performs at various music events. The set of photographs features portraits of the musicians and pictures of awards.

Miroslav Rác alias BG Romano Hip – Hop is a singer, songwriter, piano songs composer. He lives and works in Levice. Set of photographs was created during the jazz concert in Želiezovce. Photos show also accompanying musicians, Anton Bukai, who played the bass guitar and Miroslav Talpáš, playing the drums. Both musicians are active in several music ensembles, playing both home and abroad.

Tomáš Botló - performance

The file of photographs was created during documentation of music performence of a singer Tomáš Botló, in village Hubice. Tomáš Botló – singer and musician, plays a guitar, but most of all he plays a piano, which he was studying on Bratislava State Conservatory. He composes his own songs, also he set up his own recodring studio at home and so he shows himself as a very good audio engineer. Tomáš mixes roma music with a modern music genres, such as jazz, funk, hip-hop, latino, flamenco, pop and this kind of genre syncretism makes him a well-rounded multi-cultural and multi-genre musician. He cooperates with several slovak and foreign rappers and artists.

Igor Radič - smithy

Igor Radič was born in 1960 in Klenovec. He was interested in smithing since his childhood. After finishing the vocational school, he started to work as a smith in a collective farm in Klenovec. He was taught by the old smith masters. Since 1995, he's engaged in business. He´s an authorised representative of Roma Smithcraft Civic Association, which holds Smith Workshops. He´s doing both industrial smithery and smithcraft. A set of photographs, made by Documentation and Information Centre of Roma Culture, catches his smithy and also working process of an iron part of shepherd´s axe making.
