Martin Kaleja-Januv (1984-) was born in the Romani settlement in Jarovnice where he remains living. His relationship with fine arts started building up during his years at the Elementary school in Jarovnice when guided by the fine arts' teacher Jan Sajko. He continued his studies at the Secondary School of Arts in Presov, specializing in the field of wood-curving. Beside drawing and painting, he works with wood as well, portraying mainly sacral themes. Currently, Martin Kaleja-Januv works as the teacher's assistant at the Elementary school in Jarovnice.

The Jarovnice Elementary School – The Virtual Gallery

The Elementary School in 192 Jarovnice recalled its 50th anniversary. The school is known as being exclusively attended by Romani children, as well as by their worldwide recognized art works. Under the leadership of the teacher Jan Sajko, the children have been participating at art competitions since 1987. The first awards for pupils were won in 1988 at the competition in Hungary. The school’s corridors are the small gallery of the art works which are included into the virtual gallery as well. The users of application is given the opportunity to walk through the virtual corridors and see all the art works. The application is available in Slovak, Romani and English languages.

Big House in Auschwitz

Aušvicate o kher baro / Big House in Aschwitz:
The lament related to the Holocaust (Porrajmos) which Roma were a part of. The authors of lyrics and music are not identified, the song is traditionally passed to next generation orally.
The lament Aušvits (Auschwitz) was first recorded in the 1960s by Ružena Danielová, a survivor from the Czech town of Mutenice, Juhomoravsky Region in Czech Republic, the Holocaust (Porrajmos) survivor.

Cold Touch of Lost Morning

Twenty selected poems written by Roman Goroľ create the content of the collection titled Cold Touch of Lost Morning, published by the State Scientific Library in Prešov in November 2016. Editorial work was carried by the employees of the documentation and information center of the Romani culture.

The author writes his poetry in Slovak language. Four poems were translated both in Romani and English language. The collection was illustrated by Martin Kaleja Januv.

The author Roman Goroľ was born in August 15, 1969 in Vranov nad Topľou as the second out of five children. He is married, the father of three sons, works as the teacher’s assistant at the Elementary School in Caklov, where he also lives.  He received his bachelor’s title from the Pedagogical Faculty of the Presov University in Presov.
