Adrian Balog - The Music Teacher Speaking

A. Balog, when interviewed, was thirty-years old qualified teacher of music. Originally from Kosice, living in Filakovo currently, the place which even before the crisis in 2008 started had become a town with high concentration of the Romani people from all over Slovakia. A. Balog is an experienced teacher teaching at the local Elementary Musical School. Beside this, he studies the opera singing at the Private Musical and Drama Conservatory in Hnusta. He speaks about his activities in the gospel band where he invites also the children from the community. Adrian Balog speaks about his family's traditions - his grandfather Zoltan Balog and his cimbalom band played the music typical for the Gemer-Malohont region. Adrian Balog in his speaking brings more information about the regional culture of the mentioned regions.

Gizela Bikarova - Memories

Aušvicate o kher baro / Big House in Aschwitz:
The lament related to the Holocaust (Porrajmos) which Roma were a part of. The authors of lyrics and music are not identified, the song is traditionally passed to next generation orally.
The lament Aušvits (Auschwitz) was first recorded in the 1960s by Ružena Danielová, a survivor from the Czech town of Mutenice, Juhomoravsky Region in Czech Republic, the Holocaust (Porrajmos) survivor.

Ľudovít Petík - speaking

Ľudovít Petík (1952 -) was born in the village of Ražňany in the district of Sabinov, to a large, classical music family of Roma, they were the rural musicians. Although he did not continue with this tradition, his children and grandchildren revived it and successfully developed it further. In the interview, he addresses the issues of the family, the state of society and the Roma community, social changes and the assessment of their impact specifically on the Roma. Mediated memories of World War II events are an important part of the testimony. He obtained these facts from his father, who was a direct participant in the war events in Slovakia and Germany.

The interview reflects his memories of events and society changes after the year 1945 in the form of the memories passed to him by his parents - his parents' memories of the 2nd World War and its consequences on the life of the Romani community in Sabinov. The memories of the social changes after the year 1989 are personal. Zoltan Duda provides information as a memeber of the Romani community in Sabinov, as well as a long time member of the City Council, before the member of the Local National Comittee. The interview is done in Romani language, divided into several chapters based on the main topic of speaking.
