Dusi Band - Grigoras Dinicu: Pacsirta (Lark)

The instrumental composition Lark by Grigoras Dinicu performed by the cimbalom band Július Bandy from Prešov was recorded on April 10, 2019. The band is composed of Julius Bandy and his three sons - Christian, Julius, Samuel. In the band they play dulcimer, double bass, violin and viola. From music genres they interpret both classical and entertaining music. In their repertoire we find Slovak and Romani folklore, as well as music of other minorities - Jewish, Ruthenian, Hungarian, Russian, and they also play film music.

Helena Cervenakova - Speaking her Memories

The interview with H. Červeňáková was recorded in September 2013 in the village Roštár, in Rožňava district. H. Červeňáková, neé Laliková, was born in 1963 in the family of migrants from Slovakia in the town Moravska Trebova. Later the family returned to Slovakia, back to the village they came from. H. Cervenakova was a member of the group of the leading personalities of the Romani culture, civic and association activities in the region of Gemer. Her literary creation is specific, she writes directly in Romani language, especially in very unique Romani dialect occuring exclusively in Roznava and its close vicinity. The interview's topic is her live, memories about the events which took place in the Romani community in Gemer as well as other places. The speaking is in Slovak language.

Kvetoslava Berkyova - Speaking the Memories

The interview was recorded in 2014, March 31st. Kvetoslava Berkyova works in the local Romani community in Rudnany for more than 30 years already. Rudnany is the place where she was born and still lives and works there. As a field worker and activist she is highly devoted to the work with children and youth in the local community center. She works with them on various theater, music or dancing performances. She used to write poetry as well.

Karol Bari - Speaking

The interview with Karol Bari was recorded in September 2013 in Cakov, a village in the Rimavska Sobota district. Karol Bari was born in 1941 in the above mentioned village where he also spent his life. He comes from the large family, has six brothers, he is the only one of them who does the traditional basketry. In the interview he speaks about his experience in basket-making as well as the traditionally used ways of making the baskets. The interview is in Slovak language. It provides a glimpse into the life of the traditional Romani craftsman.

Adrian Balog - The Music Teacher Speaking

A. Balog, when interviewed, was thirty-years old qualified teacher of music. Originally from Kosice, living in Filakovo currently, the place which even before the crisis in 2008 started had become a town with high concentration of the Romani people from all over Slovakia. A. Balog is an experienced teacher teaching at the local Elementary Musical School. Beside this, he studies the opera singing at the Private Musical and Drama Conservatory in Hnusta. He speaks about his activities in the gospel band where he invites also the children from the community. Adrian Balog speaks about his family's traditions - his grandfather Zoltan Balog and his cimbalom band played the music typical for the Gemer-Malohont region. Adrian Balog in his speaking brings more information about the regional culture of the mentioned regions.
