A collection of photographs documenting a Romani woodcarver Vojtech Varadi. He lives and works in the village Bretka (district of Rožňava). He worked in the village as a cattle shepherd and got to carving craft during his work, when he began to carve out wood in a meadow. The photos document his dwelling where he creates, but also the space in front of the house where he shows his carvings. It is mainly birds, but also utility items such as spoons, ladles, boars. He has three sons, only one of them is carving - Boris Varadi. Woodcarving is a source of livelihood for them.

Karel Adam, DiS.art, (1953-) is a professional musician – first violinist, conductor and in the time of speaking the director (1998-2016) of the professional Romani Theater Romathan. After graduation from The State Conservatory in Košice he worked for art agencies Slovkoncert and Pragokoncert. In 1992 he joined the nascent Theater Romathan as a Chief Conductor of the Theater Orchestra.

Cinka Panna - The Memorial

The photographs documenting the memorial of the Romani lead violinist Cinka Panna. The author is the carver and sculptor Aladár Igó. The memorial was installed in the Gemer village in 1992.
Cinka Panna - the legendary Romani lead violinist well-known in all Hungarian kingdom as well as in Poland and Romania (some mentioned as Cinkova Panna).

Jozef Cichý

Jozef Cichý (1966-) is a painter of the Romani origin from the village Nizny Zipov in the district of Trebisov. The vehicle mechanic by profession, devoted many of his years of life to painting exclusively. His artwork is mainly influenced by Salvador Dali, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarotti and Rafael Santi. He paints mostly with acrylic and oil colours on canvas or sololit. Several of his wall paintings are in churches and funeral houses. The main motives of his artwork are of sacral nature as well as family evironment, war and "romipen". In 90s of the past century he received award for painting in the Slovak competition of amateur art work in Trencin. Among the works of other Romani artists were his paintings exhibited in Poland, in the Museum of the Romani Culture in Brno, in Bratislava at the exhibition titled Heartprints at the Pallette of Romani Artists, in Presov, in Michalovce at the exhibition titled Romane cerchena (Romani Stars) or in Stropkov. Currently, his paintings can be seen in aproximately 30 villages in funeral houses and churches, exhibited in the Museum of Romani Culture in Brno and in other places both in Slovakia and abroad.

The mysterious world and the Fuzzies

The premiere of the children´s performance "The mysterious world and the Fuzzies" was played by Romathan theatre. The fairy-tale inscenation offers to the audience the look into the imaginative world of the forest kingdom, reigned by the queen "Bachtaľori". In a fairy tale a young spectator reveals the secrets of a good and love on a background of an evil and intrigues being enacted both in a Mysterious world, as well as in a world of humans. The genre: a fairy-tale with a songs;The language of performance: Slovak primary, Romani secondary; The scenery: classical stage properties, the play is not interactive, but performative. Cast: Karel Adam, Oto Bunda, Milan Godla, Marián Balog, and others.

Romathan Newly Dressed

The 65th premiere of Romathan Theatre was marked as in "a new dress". Musical and dance performance was linked with a traditional Romani psalms and dances, which are the carriers of a deep idea of Romani inner feelings and felowship and which bring the audience to the world of Roma (music, dance, singing). The orchestral background of the performance has its own separate outputs, which shows the interconnection and the multiculturalism of the nations in Europe.

Romathan - Love Lost

Photos from a feature-length production called Love Lost. The drama is from the 19th century, it takes place in the Roumanian environment and shows the relationship of nomadic Roma with the Count. The author and director of the play is Žaneta Štipáková, a soloist of the Romathan Theater. It was the 74th premiere, which took place in the theater on April 20, 2018.
