Two days with Tibor Oláh

Tibor Oláh is an amateur artist, living and working in Plešivec village. He was born in Detva, as one of 8 siblings. He was brought to fine arts by his brother Dušan Oláh. His favourite theme is nature - landscapes and village settlements. His work is characterized by bold colours. He paints on canvas and also on hardboard. He says he´s painting what he remembers from his childhood. He often records the inspiring nature on video. This digital object catches painting of Roma settlement Pastovník in Detva, where he spent his childhood. The painting was made as an illustration for Romano Nevo Ľil newspapers.

Romathan - Csardas Virtuoso

The 65th premiere of Romathan Theatre was marked as in "a new dress". The program was conceived as a combination of music, dancing, singing and of a theatre orchestra separate stage displays. One of these displays is a song called The Virtuoso Csárdás.

The 65th premiere of Romathan Theatre was performed in a music - dance way. The musical and dancing parts of the premiere performance were alternated in symbiosis. The preview offers the chapash dance of the dance ensemble of Romathan.

The Live Library Project: Roma Music in Slovakia with Eugen Vizváry

The Live Libraries, as a method, offer an opportunity to know the personal stories of interesting people, who are almost unknown to the majority audience. The purpose is to promote the identity of Romani national minority and on the other side to introduce the Romani people as an national minority with a rich cultural tradition. The second of a series "Live Books 2015" organized by State Scientific Library in Prešov, held on 22. June 2015 in Wave Club in Prešov, this time discussing about the Romani music in Slovakia. The main guest was music producer, composer, pianist Eugen Vizváry, one of the most requested Slovak musician, who devotes to the music genres of Jazz, Funky, Fusion Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop, R&B, Country, Classic. The event was accompanied by the Cimbalom folk Ensemble - Ďusi Band from Prešov (Július Bandy Sr., Július Bandy Jr., Peter Ferko, Kristián Bandy + Samko Bandy) and singers Žaneta Štipáková and Vanessa Siváková.

Your Story

The project A Good Start 2 arose from the iniciative of Equalization of chances Civic Assotiation with a financial support of Roma Education fund (REF, Budapest). Implemented since 2010 as a pilot project aimed at strengthening and promoting preschool education of children from socially disadvantaged groups in locations with Roma population. Zborov is one of the three locations, where activities are taking place, focused mostly on strengthening pre-school institutions attendance, also so called family education of children, which do not attend the kindergarten, because of lack of capacity and activation of parents for the purpose of their non-formal education and greater participation in these processes. Project Your Story belongs among the activities of work with parents based on improving the language skills of mothers by reading the books and working wiith texts of fairy tales on regular meetings.

The interviewers were Erika Godlová and Zuzana Paľuchová. The musical guest was the band Gypsy Kings Revival.

Ondrej Ruszó - The Portrait

Ondrej Ruszó is an amateur artist, living and working in a Plešivec village. He was born in Revúca. He´s running his own atelier together with artist Tibor Oláh. He´s involved into the fine arts since his childhood since elementary school. There were periods of time, when he didn´t do art at all. He says, that talented person will always have talent, even though he won´t paint for years. While he was working on construction sites in Bratislava, he improved his skills, attending the art course after the work. His first works were published in Romano Nevo Ľil newspapers in the early 90s. He illustrated poems. His prefered themes are religion, he draws portraits and he´s also interested in building architecture.

Viliam Sarközy - The Blacksmith

Viliam Sarközy comes from the blacksmith´ family. The portrait about him was made during the European Roma Blacksmiths´ Symposioum, organized by civic organization Chartikano. In the portrait he talks about the smith tradition in the village and his family and about the future of this craft.

Emília Kissová, alias Babula, speaks about the habits and traditions, about the differences and specifications of the life of Vlachika Roma in Slovakia. In the six chapters she speaks about the importance of the family, about the coexistence in the families, about the engagement and wedding traditions, about the children, motherhood, about the kids´s nicknames and birth gifts, about the traditions after someone´s death and during the funeral, abou the fortune telling and about the Romani language.
