Arnold Sási

Arnold Sási is a member of the orchestrat of the Romathan Theatre, where he plays third violin. He studied violin at the Secondary Art School in Košice. As he says, since childhood his grandparents and parents built in him a love for music and specifically for Roma folklore. As a violinist he plays in his father Alexander Sási's family band, in Žaneta Štipáková's swing band, and in local folklore bands. Mgr. Kristína Mojžišová, PhD. graduated in Slovak language and history teaching at the Faculty of Arts of the P. J. Šafárik University in Prešov and Košice. Since 1996, she has been engaged in journalism, first as an editor of the daily SME, later at the Roma Press Agency. She currently works at Radio Patria, STVR studio in Košice. The Bandy Brothers

Kristián Bandy studies the violin at the Catholic University in Ružomberok.He is a guest in the musical component of the Romathan theatre and leads the musical component of the Fijalečka ensemble at the Šrobárová Primary School in Prešov. He plays the viola in the family band.
Július Bandy graduated from the Private Music and Drama Conservatory in Košice. He plays the double bass in the family band. He is also a talented multi-instrumentalist.
Samuel Bandy is the leader of the family band. He studies violin at the Mikuláš Moyzes Primary Art School in Prešov. For his violin playing he has won several important awards at competitions in Slovakia.
The topic of the interview is their journey as musicians, education and identification with Roma culture.

He comes from the village of Šumiac, from the family of musicians. His father's family are the Pokoš musicians from Šumiac, his mother's family the Harvans from Telgárt. These are the localities in which guitar or keyboard instruments never dominated. Instead, violin, accordion, double-bass and cimbalom were key instruments played there. He plays the double-bass, violin and accordion. He is a musical self-taught person. The Pokošovci Band plays both Slovak and Romani folklore music from the region of Horehronie.
His brothers Rado and Stano and him released the album Folk Band Pokošovci 2, which reached the 15th place in the World Music Chart Europe, in January 2020.

Rastislav Zubaj works at the Office of the Government Plenipotentiary for Roma communities as a regional coordinator of the national project Field social work and field work in municipalities with the presence of marginalized Roma communities. As part of his work, he focuses on strategic planning, implementation of projects and policies aimed at improving the social and economic conditions of Roma in Slovakia. His role is to coordinate various initiatives and programs related to education, employment, housing and health care in Roma communities. He is involved in the development and implementation of measures that support equal opportunities and the fight against discrimination. He actively participates in the creation and implementation of solutions that contribute to the inclusion and integration of Roma communities into society.
In the interview he shares memories of his family and childhood, his school and study years, but also of the pastoring of the Roma and the role of the (Catholic) Church in helping the Roma and their integration.

Elena Cinová

Elena Cinová has been working as a teacher of professional development of teachers for the first stage of primary schools since 2008, she also deals with special pedagogy. It is part of her work within the ROCEPO department at the Methodological and Pedagogical Center in Prešov.
She comes from the village of Brekov. In her native village, she researches the local history of the Roma community using the method of oral history.
