Adriana Drafiová, known under the stage name Gitana, is a singer of Roma origin. As a performer, she has a strong vocal expression, performing mainly thedance and rom-pop music; currently expanding her profile as a music composer. In recent years, she recorded several successful collaborations with well-known artists of the mainstream Slovak and Czech music scene. In the interview she shares information about her family background, first steps of her carreer, music and sources of inspiration for her own works, and the topics of romipen and the Romani language as well.The interview was recorded on November 19, 2021 in Prešov, at the Wave Club - Center for Independent Culture.

Štefan Vavrek

Štefan Vavrek is a teacher by profession (mathematics and ethical education), a graduate of the University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra. He taught in the town of Tornaľa. In 2007, he co-founded an association of mentors for Romani pupils called Tanoda, later he continued the educational activities in the Ternipe organization based in Rimavská Seč.
He started in politics at the local level as the mayor of Rimavská Seč, in 2018 he became a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic (The Slovak Parliament) for the political party Most-Híd. His main agenda was education and regional development. In the interview, he talks about political, national and personal topics.

Ľudovít Petík

Ľudovít Petík comes from well-known musical family, the members of which used to play and, simultaneously, do certain crafts. This stays with the family even today. Ľudovít himself played and all 45 years of his productive live worked as a driver; the last 30 of them as a bus driver of MHD (The City Mass Transportation Enterprise) in Prešov.

The folk song originally from Balkan region, lyrics by Eduard Čonka, performed by the singer Gitana (stage name), her civil name is Adriana Drafiová, musical accompaniment by Ďusi Band, the folk cimbalom orchestra. Musical talent is her family heirloom. Gitana (Adriana Drafiová) used her gift and became an accomplished singer of mainly electro swing and gypsy swing. Already at the age of seventeen, she sang with various bands abroad, performed in Hungary with Jozef Szabo, a respected singer, and later on her years long collaboration with the Kmeťoband began. She also sang a duet with Juraj Benetin, the lead singer of Korben Dallas, which is the opening song of Pixar's animated short film Lava from 2015.
Ďusi Band
Romani family folk band from Prešov, led by the cimbalist Július Bandy. He and his three sons produce and preserve the best traditions of Romani dulcimer music in Slovakia. They perform independently or in collaboration with a wide range of Roma and non-Roma artists. The guest member is Roland Horváth (clarinet, saxophone) from Rimavská Sobota.

Alexander Mušinka is a cultural anthropologist, an expert in Ruthenian-Ukrainian as well as in Romani issues. He studied ethnology and history at Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. Since 1997, he has been working as a researcher at the University of Prešov in Prešov, currently at the Institute of Roma Studies, and is active in the non-governmental sector. He participated in many research, non-governmental and development projects related to Roma communities, especially in the Eastern Slovakia. He is the chairman of the Society for Research and Development of Minority Groups of the Slovak Republic - MINORITAS, the chairman of the Regional Center for Roma Issues in Prešov and he is also the vice-chairman of the Center for Anthropological Research in Prešov. His publishing activity, whether as author or co-author, is rich, resulting in dozens of publications, anthologies and scientific studies. The Svinia Project was a development project that began in 1998 in the Roma settlement of Svinia with Alexander Mušinka as its coordinator.The third part of the interview is focused on the changes and improvements of the environment within the settlement. What steps were taken towards solutions in the issues of drinking water, sewerage or housing.

Lomnické čháve is the rom-pop band with Milan Polhoš as the lead musician and singer and managed by Tomáš Slebodník. Their repertoir includes mainly the Romani folk songs and songs from other nations. The band's performance is in pop style, using electronic music instruments. The author of the painting is the painter Jozef Fečo. The painting is a part of the 11-pieces collection of pictures covering the events of the Romani Holocaust. The author found the inspiration in the literary work of Elena Lacková, specifically in her novel The Dead Never Return. The collection was created with support of the stipend provided by the Fund for Minorities’ Culture Development SR.
The author adds the description of the painting by the quoting the novel:
“Men, exhausted from sleepless night and constant hunger struggled to line up; the procession of black heads set out marching through Prešov. Like a black snake it moved from the main square to the train station. Poor people expressed their sorry for Roma, some of them even having tears in their eyes. But there were others who began shouting: Look, Gypsies are coming! They already lead the Gypsies! They will make them into rubber and soap!
Such words etched deeply into the souls of the marching Romanies.“
Jozef Fečo is a graduate of the Secondary Art School in Prešov, majoring in design and artistic wood shaping. He is primarily interested in the facial expressions of human faces, their expressive value and typical personality traits. For the State Science Library in Prešov, he created a series of 23 large-format paintings in 2015 and 2019 called Unknown Colours of Personalities.
