Michal Barsony - Angel

Born in the village Kunova Teplica, the district of Roznava. The family spoke Hungarian, and kept the tradition of smithery and music. He graduated from the Pedagogical Faculty of Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica, specialzed in fine arts and Russian language. The post-gradual studies completed at the Pedagogical Faculty of University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra, awarded with the title PeadDr. His main creation is painting and drawing, with prevailing themes of the sacral nature, as well as some women portraits and landscapes. As a pedagogue worked at several elementary and secondary schools, as well as at universities. He also worked for the State Institute Of Pedagogy. The video shows him describing the process of painting the concrete painting titled Angel, the technique and material used for it, as well as the background of how the theme and form were chosen.

The Sisters

Jozef Cichý (1966-) is a the painter of the Romani origin, born in Nižný Žipov, the district of Trebišov. He was trained as an auto mechanic, later devoted himself exclusively to painting. His work was influenced especially by Salvador Dali, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarotti and Rafael Santi. He works mostly with acrylic and oil paintings, painting mostly on canvas and hardboard. He also has several wall paintings in churches and houses of sadness. The main themes of his works are, besides sacral themes, the topics of family, war and Roma. In the 90's, he was awarded a prize for painting in a national amateur art contest in Trenčín. He has exhibited his work with other Romany artists in Poland, the Museum of Romany Culture in Brno, in Bratislava at the exhibition named Heart Prints on the Romany Painters‘ Palette, in Prešov, in Michalovce at an exhibition entitled Romane čercheňa (The Romani Stars) or in Stropkov. His paintings are currently located in about 30 villages in houses for funerals, in several churches, in the Museum of Romany Culture in Brno and other places in Slovakia and abroad.

Miroslav Rác is young Roma pianist, singer, rapper, accompanist, composer. He uses a stage name BG. He´s composing his songs in "gangster romano hip - hop" style. The song "You Are My Destiny" is his self composed song. Singing and musical interpretation in the song - Miroslav Rác. Ms. Barbora Botosova

Barbora Botosova - the granddaughter of Jan Berky Mrenica sn., (the concert master of the Slovak Folk Arts Ensemble, serving for 33 years), the daughter of Eugen Botos sn. (the head violinst of the Violin Orchestra), the sister of Eugen Botos jn. (the known jazz pianist and composer). In the year 2012 Barbora Botosova graduated from the Higher School of Fine Arts in Bratislave, under the tutoring of Prof. Peter Michalica. Later, she completed the special course of composition lead by Lubica Cekovska. Nowadays perfomes as a free artist, playing in the orchestras Bohemiens and Women Rebels. In the interview speaks about her childhood, music, studies, her own creation, as well as about the current state of the Romani music and its historical context.

Art for Diversity

Recording of live performance, Wave Club, November 7, 2015. The concert titled Art for diversity is the unique project, presenting beauties, uniqueness and mutual relations between the various minority cultures within one evening. The compositions of the Romani, Jewish, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Serbian, Ruthenian and Bulgarian origins, influenced by very popular world music style,  were played during the concert. All compositions are founded in the folk music of the national minorities, the were played in the specific, author's made arrangements. The leading musician of the band at the concert is a young first violinist, Barbora Botosova, the grand-daughter of the legendary musician Jan Berky Mrenica senior, and daughter of Eugen Botos. Agata Siemaszko - a singer, Marek Koncek - a violin, Jan Sivak - cimbalom, viola, Maros Sivak - a guitar, Tomas Gaspierik - contrabass.

Jozef Cichý - My Journey To Fine Arts

Jozef Cichý (1966) - is a painter of the Romani origin from the village Nizny Zipov in the district of Trebisov. The vehicle mechanic by profession, devoted many of his years of life to painting exclusively. His artwork is mainly influenced by Salvador Dali, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarotti and Rafael Santi. He paints mostly with acrylic and oil colours on canvas or sololit. Several of his wall paintings are in churches and funeral houses. The main motives of his artwork are of sacral nature as well as family evironment, war and "romipen". In 90s of the past century he received award for painting in the Slovak competition of amateur art work in Trencin. Among the works of other Romani artists were his paintings exhibited in Poland, in the Museum of the Romani Culture in Brno, in Bratislava at the exhibition titled  Heartprints at the Pallette of Romani Artists, in Presov, in Michalovce at the exhibition titled Romane cerchena (Romani Stars) or in Stropkov. Currently, his paintings can be seen in aproximately 30 villages in funeral houses and churches, exhibited in the Museum of Romani Culture in Brno and in other places both in Slovakia and abroad.

Women's Dance - The Romathan Entertains

Demonstration of Romathan Theater dance performance under the name Romathan Entertains. The dance was presented by members of the dance section of the theater during a performance in a cultural house in the village of Svinia. Dance with the typical Romani dance steps, combined with the variations from modern dances, creatively incorporated by the dancers into their own performances. Working with hands, shoulders, hips, the phenomenal use of secondary components, such as costumes, allfacture, or mimics and gestures, complete the aesthetic image of the performance.
