Dusan Barkoci - A Basket Maker

The Racs and Smithery

Smithery as a tradition of the family was started by Stefan Rac. The craft is further carried by his son and both his grandchildren. The video presents the dialogue between Stefan Rac and his granddaughter Barbora Racova. They describe blacksmith's work, the products made, production process as well as their way towards the craft itself. The video also shows works of Stefan Rac, his granddaughter (Barbora Racova) and his grandson (Pavol Rac).

Robert Rigó - The Smithery Tradition of the Family

Robert Rigó (1953) is the artistic smith from Dunajska Luzna. From his smithy and The Hefaiston Salesroom the manually forged objects. From a small candelabra through large balustrade to dominant gates; these all can be found throughout Slovakia as well as in many countries in the world.
Robert Rigó focuses on traditional craft trying to preserve the ancient smithery motives and technique.
Robert Rigó is the chairperson of the Chartikano Association which in 2015 realized the 15th European Romani Smiths Symposium. In their Gallery of Smithery the rich creation of the master smiths from Dunajska Luzna is presented.
Formerly, Dunajska Luzna was called the Iron Village. Smithery as a craft has more than 300 years long tradition there; until today being the place with the highest number of forges in Slovakia.

Ivan Sarkozy - talking about smithing

Ivan Sarkozy was born into the family with smithing ingrained in its history. In Dunajska Luzna he works in their family blacksmithery. His professional education is the ship mechanic, the profession he never worked in. He is fully dedicated to the smithing, especially smithcraft. His hobby is creation of iron sculptures made of iron scrap.

Mgr. Lydia Gabcova graduated from the University of Konstantiv the Philospher in Nitra, specialization in the social work. After graduation she continued her education during her internships with Council of Europe and European Commission. Specialization in the Romani language was the field she studied at the University of Manchester in Great Britain. Currently, she works as the project manager of many projects ofocused on integration of Roma. The interview is about her personal and professional life as well as about the social processes which happened after 1989.

Zaneta Stipakova - Speaking

Zaneta Stipakova graduated from the Middle School of Arts in Kosice where she specialized in music and dramatic arts. She finished higher middle education there. She worked as a voice pedagogue in The Private Conservatoir in Prague and later as a teacher's assistant in elementary school in Kosice.
Currently, she is a member of the Romathan Theater. She is the actress, singer, director and also she writes her own dramas.

Roman Goroľ - Cold Touch of Lost Morning

Roman Gorol was born on 15th of August, 1969, in Vranov nad Toplou. He is married, has three sons, works as a teaching assistant at the Elementary School in the village Caklov, where he lives. Roman Gorol graduated from the Pedagogical Faculty of the Presov University in Presov, as the bachelor of pedagogy. Roman Gorol loves literature, both poetry and prose. In his young years he began writing short poems about life, emotions, love. His art of word is present in the book of poems titled “Cold Touch of Lost Morning”, published by the State Research Library in Presov, 2016, illustrated by Martin Kaleja Januv. Four poems of the collection were translated in Romani and English languages by Erika Godlova. The video recorded on December 1st, 2016, introduces the author of the book of poems, some of his poems as well as the illustrator Martin Kaleja Januv, whose talent in fine arts is also pictured in the video. Adela Orgovánová - Reminiscence

Adela Orgovánová (1936-) was born in Presov, a town she lived in all her lifetime. At 8 years old she survived the bombing of Presov by the Soviet Army. The bombardment happened on 20th of December, 1944 and took more than 70 minutes. There's no exact number of victims known, officially 140 persons were buried in Presov. She speaks about life in Presov during the WWII and after the war - speaks about her family, childhood, her youth and work, as well as about her efforts, poverty, friendships and values.

Michal Bársony - Fine Arts

Born in the village Kunova Teplica, the district of Roznava. The family spoke Hungarian, and kept the tradition of smithery and music. He graduated from the Pedagogical Faculty of Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica, specialzed in fine arts and Russian language. The post-gradual studies completed at the Pedagogical Faculty of University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra, awarded with the title PeadDr. His main creation is painting and drawing, with prevailing themes of the sacral nature, as well as some women portraits and landscapes. As a pedagogue worked at several elementary and secondary schools, as well as at universities. He also worked for the State Institute Of Pedagogy.

Michal Bársony - A Pedagogue and Painter

Born in the village of Kunova Teplica, in the Rožňava district. The mother tongue in the family was Hungarian, traditionally the family carried on blacksmithing and music. He studied Fine Arts and Russian language at the Faculty of Education at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. He took the post-graduate studies at the Faculty of Pedagogy at the University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra and received the title PaedDr. He does paintings and drawings, thematically is his work predominated by sacral themes, to a lesser extent by the female portraits and landscapes. As a pedagogue, he worked at primary, secondary and higher education institutions, some time he also spent at the State Educational Institute in Bratislava. In the video, he describes an image-making process called Angel, the technique used, material, and how the idea about the theme came to him, and what was the visualization of it.
