Michal Bársony - The Collection on the Wall

Born in the village Kunova Teplica, the district of Roznava. The family spoke Hungarian, and kept the tradition of smithery and music. He graduated from the Pedagogical Faculty of Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica, specialzed in fine arts and Russian language. The post-gradual studies completed at the Pedagogical Faculty of University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra, awarded with the title PeadDr. His main creation is painting and drawing, with prevailing themes of the sacral nature, as well as some women portraits and landscapes. As a pedagogue worked at several elementary and secondary schools, as well as at universities. He also worked for the State Institute Of Pedagogy. In the video he describes the process of creating a collection of paintings, the technique used, the material, and the idea behind the selection and presentation of the theme.

Tomáš Botló - speaking about the Romani music

Tomáš Botló -  a singer and musician, playing amateur guitar, playing piano mostly, studied at the State conservatory in Bratislava. He writes his own songs, he built his recording studio at home where he proved being an excellent sound mixer. Tomas mixis Romani music with modern genres such as jazz, funk, hip-hop, latino, flamenco, pop and this kind of genre syncretism makes him multi-cultural and multi-genre musician. He cooperated with several Slovak as well as foreign rappers and artists. His musical idol is George Benson. The video presents his talk about his muscial begginings, studies, principal influence shaping his musical production, or specific features and ways the Romani music in Slovakia takes.

Ms. Barbora Botosova

Barbora Botosova - the granddaughter of Jan Berky Mrenica sn., (the concert master of the Slovak Folk Arts Ensemble, serving for 33 years), the daughter of Eugen Botos sn. (the head violinst of the Violin Orchestra), the sister of Eugen Botos jn. (the known jazz pianist and composer). In the year 2012 Barbora Botosova graduated from the Higher School of Fine Arts in Bratislave, under the tutoring of Prof. Peter Michalica. Later, she completed the special course of composition lead by Lubica Cekovska. Nowadays perfomes as a free artist, playing in the orchestras Bohemiens and Women Rebels. In the interview speaks about her childhood, music, studies, her own creation, as well as about the current state of the Romani music and its historical context.

Jozef Cichý - My Journey To Fine Arts

Jozef Cichý (1966) - is a painter of the Romani origin from the village Nizny Zipov in the district of Trebisov. The vehicle mechanic by profession, devoted many of his years of life to painting exclusively. His artwork is mainly influenced by Salvador Dali, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarotti and Rafael Santi. He paints mostly with acrylic and oil colours on canvas or sololit. Several of his wall paintings are in churches and funeral houses. The main motives of his artwork are of sacral nature as well as family evironment, war and "romipen". In 90s of the past century he received award for painting in the Slovak competition of amateur art work in Trencin. Among the works of other Romani artists were his paintings exhibited in Poland, in the Museum of the Romani Culture in Brno, in Bratislava at the exhibition titled  Heartprints at the Pallette of Romani Artists, in Presov, in Michalovce at the exhibition titled Romane cerchena (Romani Stars) or in Stropkov. Currently, his paintings can be seen in aproximately 30 villages in funeral houses and churches, exhibited in the Museum of Romani Culture in Brno and in other places both in Slovakia and abroad.

JUDr. Gustáv Karika - speaking

JUDr. Gustav Karika (1930 - 2016) was born in Myjava, in the Roma settlement. He was one of the first lawyers of Romani origin in the former Czechoslovakia. In the narrative that was recorded on 12 May 2014 at his home in New Dubnica, he is gradually addressing both biographical and factual themes - from his family, through education, to career and to historical events that shaped our geopolitical space from World War II to the present. In the narrative, he mentions several concepts, names and events that are not part of general education anymore, so we also explain them.

The Association of Gypsies-Roma (1969 - 1973) It was created as a social organization during the so-called reconstruction process in Czechoslovakia in order to achieve equal and peaceful coexistence and mitigation of state-controlled assimilation. Following the onset of normalization in 1973, it was abolished.

Butiker / Nevodrom - economic facilities of the The Association of Gypsies-Roma. They supported employment opportunities for Roma, commissioned by Roma craftsmen, established workshops.

Andrej Andreyevich Vlasov (September 14, 1901 - August 2, 1946) Soviet general of Russian descent. After the Battle of Leningrad he got into German captivity, cooperated with the Nazis, founded the Russian Liberation Army.

Vlasovci - followers of General Vlasov, a military unit formed of Soviet prisoners of war as well as volunteers, emigrants and opponents of Communism (Stalinism).

Rudolf Slánský - (July 31, 1901, Nezvěstice - December 3, 1952, Prague) General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party in 1945 - 1951). In 1951, he was accused of organizing an anti-state conspiracy, sentenced and subsequently executed in well-known political processes. The court rehabilitated him in 1963 and the Communist Party in 1968.

The Romani Literature Club

The Romani Literature Club (ROLIK) is the association of the authors of poetry and prose who are inspired by life of Roma. ROLIK was founded in 2009 in Banská Bystrica, based on the initiative of the Association of the Romani Initiatives, its founding member is Mgr. Marián Balog. The aim of the club is to present the literary works of Romanies and the ones about Romanies. The discussion with the members of the Romani Literature Club was done in Banská Bystrica, on April 29, 2016. The video records the discussions with Ivana Cicková, Mgr. Marián Balog, Milan Berko and Zlatica Rusová. The discussion provides information about the works of the individual authors, their first step in writing. The discussion takes a form of the dialogue between the respective authors and Mgr. Marián Balog. In the discussion the participants mention the names of the prominent personalities known from the Romani cultural and social environment, their significance for the Romani literarz and informational and academic work.
