The Bihari's Festival 2013

The Bihari’s Festival is the annual event taking place in Dunajska Streda. It’s organized by the Association of the Romani Musicians in Dunajska Streda and the Zhitny Ostrov Cultural and Educational Center. The whole idea was brought in by the local Romani violinist Stefan Banyak Sn., who still acts as the most active organizer. Janos Bihari (21.10.1764, Velke Blahovo, Slovakia – 26.4.1827, Budapest, Hungary) was one of the most known musical artists of the old Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy, popular at the royal court. As a violinist as well as composer, his creative work inspired the worldwide known composers of the era, such as Franz Liszt, or Ludwig van Beethoven. The digital cultural object contains the video documenting the gala program.

Duo Farsa, Marco Pillo - A Night in Ankara

The instrumental composition A Night in Ankara is the authors' composition by Frantisek Godla and Dusan Onody, the members of the guitar players under the label Duo Farsa. The motivation behind the composition is their stay in Turkey. Duo Farsa plays their own, highly emotional compositions of more genres, mainly influenced by the Spanish rhythms of flamenco. The performance is specific by participation of Marco Pillo (a musician, singer and composer), who plays the cajon. The video was recorded on 31st of March, 2014 in the Jonas Zaborsky Theater's Small Scene as a part of the presentation of the book of poems by Dusan Onody: For You, Only You.

The songs of the album were meant as a tribute to the composer Maurice Ravel.

The digital cultural object is the video recording of him interpreting the Buleria composition. “Bulería” is the most characteristic flamenco style of Jerez de la Frontera (the hometown of flamenco, Andalusia, Spain). It is generally composed of three or four eight-syllable verses. This is one of the most complex dancing and guitar styles: bustling, happy and cheerful. Bulerías constitute an usuall dance to finish all flamencos parties.

Tomáš Botló - a singer and musician, playing amateur guitar, playing piano mostly, studied at the State conservatory in Bratislava. He writes his own songs, he built his recording studio at home where he proved being an excellent sound mixer. Tomas mixis Romani music with modern genres such as jazz, funk, hip-hop, latino, flamenco, pop and this kind of genre syncretism makes him multi-cultural and multi-genre musician. He cooperated with several Slovak as well as foreign rappers and artists. The song sung by Tomáš Botló "I am fine" is a cover version /Zámbó Jimmy/. Lyrics by Tomáš Botló. The song is sung with guitar playing, at the social hall of the cultural house in Hubice, district of Dunajská Streda.

Miroslav Rác - "Magic"

Miroslav Rác is a graduate of Music Conservatory in Topolcany, where he studied piano. He uses a stage name B.G. and he plays so called gangster romano hip-hop style. He plays the piano since he was 13 years old. Nowadays he acts as a singer, rapper, songs composer, also as a composer of an instrumental compositions for piano. The song was played on a Jazz concert, which was documented in a Cultural Center Hall in a Želiezovce village. Instrumental composition "Magic" is a self composed creation of Miroslav Rác. The drum solo played by Miroslav Talpáš and bass guitar solo played by Anton Bukai.

Jozef Ferko and Dasha Pollakova

The performance was documented on the Small Stage of the Theatre of Alexander Duchnovič in Prešov. The performance contains Romani songs traditional, as well as self-composed by Ondrej Ferko, Jozef Ferko and by the band Kmeťoband. The songs, both solo and duets, are sung by Dáša Polláková and Jozef Ferko. Author and performer of a guitar accompaniment is Jozef Ferko. Both of the interprets belong among the active members of the Romathan Theatre in Košice.

The Devilish Violin and Guests

A special concert of The Devilish Violin Orchestra and the guests dedicated to the late 75th birthday of Ján Berky Mrenica Sn. (11.5.1939, Očová, † 12.10.2008) took place in Bratislava on 18.11.2014. Ján Berky Mrenica Sn. was a violinist and composer. He founded The Devilish Violin Orchestra, whose chief representative after his death became his son, Ján Berky Mrenica Jr. Ján Berky Mrenica Sn. was widely respected as a representative of the Slovak folk music and a leading member of the SĽUK (Slovak People's Artistic Group) musical ensemble; he participated in the creation of many television music programs. He was also a collector of Roma songs, which he published in 1993 in the book named Nane oda lavutaris. He has worked with many Slovak singers (Martin Babjak, Jana Kocianová and others) and musicians, as part of his musical work. He has received awards for his outstanding cultural achievements in Slovakia: 1995 - The Slovakia's Messenge, 1997 - The Pribina's Cross, 1997- Slovak Gold, 2003 - The Crystal Wing for the year 2002, 2003 - The Award of the City of Zvolen for his life work, 2004 - The Prize of the Decade Slovak Gold, 2006 - The Award of Banska Bystrica Self-Governing Region, the golden CD for the album The Primash Dream, 5 000 pieces sold. In honor of this musician, a concert led by Ján Berky Jr. and The Devilish Violin Orchestra was held, with guests like Jana Hubinska, Jana Orlicka, Marián Čekovský, Martin Valihora, Milan Godla, Ondrej Ferko and others. The recording provides a view of the musical performances of the guests.
