A short story by the amateur woodcarver Ján Goroľ about the way to woodcarving. He worked as a locksmith, with no real desire to work with wood. He got to the craft workshop and carving thanks to the Fellowship of the Apostle Paul and the priest, Martin Mekel. In the video he talks about the connection between Christian religion and craft. In the video he also says that who can draw, can become a woodcarver as well. When drawing, the most difficult is to portray the eyes and nose properly. He also describes the work on specific works.
Ján Goroľ is a member of the gospel band LOND.
The story was created in 2013 during the documentation of the craft workshop ROMA ART Čičava. The sheltered workshop was established in 2012, initiated by Martin Mekel.

The short story by amateur woodcarver Imrich Goroľ about his way to woodcarving.
Imrich Goroľ comes from the village of Soľ. He worked as a construction worker. He got to the woodcarving by accident. He is a member of the gospel band LOND. During one of their rehearsals in the Pastoral Centre in Čičava he met a woodcarver Milan Krajňák. He showed them various drawings and asked them whether they’d like to learn the craft of woodcarving. In the video he describes the process of making various works.

A short talk of the amateur woodcarver Juraj Goroľ, about his way to woodcarving.
Juraj Goroľ comes from the village Hlinné. He studied at two year vocational school of agriculture. In the video he emphasises the need of higher and sound education. He explaines how he came to work in the sheltered workshop. When he saw the work of the woodcarver Milan Krajňák, he liked it so much he decided to give it a try. He mostly does Christian themed works, mainly the face of Jesus or crucifixes.
The story was made in 2013 while the work of craft workshop ROMA ART Čičava was being documented. The sheltered workshop started in 2012, by the initiative of Martin Mekel.

Jozef Vidlička speaking about poverty and life of people in Eastern Slovakia, especially Roma in the years after WWII. He spent bigger and better part of his life in Czech Republic. In the region of Sudety, after repatriation of Germans, he and his parents worked. There he also spent two years of the obligatory military service. After the so-called velvet revolution he and his family came back to his birth place in Slovakia.

The vocal-instrumental group Sabrosa began in Raslavice, the village in Bardejov district. Romani Girl is a song still considered the anthem of Slovak Roma. It relates to the period of the Second World War and the suffering of the Roma in labor and concentration camps. It's a slow and sad song. The Sabrosa band retains the rhythm and character of this song. The vocal-instrumental group Sabrosa was formed in the village of Raslavice in the district of Bardejov. It originally consisted of three singers and instrumentalists. Anička Oláhová became recognized by public in 2011, after she won the singing contest organized by Dorota Nvotová (a well-known Slovak singer, actress and publicist), the jury consisted of members of the Gypsy Devils ensamble. The interview with the young talented singer introduces the portrait of a girl with not so typical family background, her attitude to art, music, to her own identity as well as her expectations from future. Woodcarvers from Bretka

A short video portrait about two amateur carvers - a father and a son who live and work in the village of Bretka (Rožňava district). Vojtech Váradi worked there as shepherd, carving became his hobby, when spending a lot of time with cattle out on pasture, he began carving from pieces of wood. He has three sons, but only one of them is involved in carving - Boris Váradi. In the video, they present their products and their carving technology. They carve mainly birds, but also utility objects such as spoons, ladles, boars. Carving is a source of livelihood for them.
